Hemispheres Grant Boosts the Arts at Mustard Seed

On April 24th, 2009 the Hemispheres Arts Academy Board of Directors presented a check for $5,000 to Mustard Seed School for Homeless Children, an emergency school located at Loaves & Fishes.

Mustard Seed embraces arts in education and has worked hard to develop an outstanding arts program under the guidance of artist and educator, Christy Savage. Incorporating all art disciplines, they strive to provide unique arts opportunities and experiences to their students during a difficult time in their lives.

Through individual projects designed to instill a sense of accomplishment, students increase their self esteem and develop positive creative outlets for their energies and emotions. They gain a greater understanding of cultural diversity, increased problem-solving skills and pride which will help them to better make the transition back into the public school system.

One very successful portion of Mustard Seed’s arts programming has been the theatre component and their educators have been amazed by the positive impact that live theatre experience has had on their students.

The grant provided by Hemispheres will go far towards enhancing Mustard Seed’s arts education program; including buying necessary arts supplies, hiring guest artists from the community to work with the students and taking the children on a wide variety of arts-related field trips.
